Information technology in India compared with China and Nigeria
An efficient telecommunications and IT infrastructure can influence the rapid growth and modernization of various economic sectors of a country. A developed telecom infrastructure can play a significant role for meeting the diversified needs and improved life quality of the people. This paper will explain the IT and telecommunication development in China, India and Nigeria. How the countries are going through the developing strategies? What regulatory and structural reformation government have adopted? It will explain the privatization and alliance development and the similarities and dissimilarities among the three countries. The paper is to discuss about the limitations suffered by the countries and government reaction towards these. The conclusion of the paper will be furnished by some prospects and recommendations for the telecommunication and IT development of China, India and Nigeria.
Telecommunication development in India, China and Nigeria
The development of IT and telecommunication in India is rapidly increasing. India provides the Asia’s largest telephone network of 21.59 million-line and 27753 telephone exchanges, with a capacity of 272.17 Lakh lines and 226.3 Lakh working connections. India became successful for attracting FDI from 1991, when the government permitted free access of FDI in telecommunication sectors. For that India has been ranked first in case of actual FDI inflow form August 1991 to February 2003 and during that time the gross actual FDI is Rs 9,576.40 crore, which is the highest FDI inflow into the telecom sector all over the world (Rajan, n.d.).
An Indian telecom subscriber can communicate his/her creative ideas and consult about it with telecom professionals, can get ring tones, production information, technological information, share market information etc. To remove the connectivity problems WiMAX technology are being tried by Internet service providers (ISPs) of India. The large companies and even small companies are working on WiMAX project and for this purpose probably they are investing $1 billion in WiMAX for next two or three years for gaining around 10 million users. Beside the telecom services development also occuring in other IT services, such as value-added services, Cellular Mobile Telephone Service, Radio Paging Service, Public Mobile Radio Trunking Service, Electronic Mail, Voice Mail and Audiotex Services, 64 KBps Closed User Group (CUG) Data Service through VSAT, Credit Card Authorization. Indian government recently has taken some reformative actions through legislation to carry on the developments fluently. The Indian government has converged multimedia technologies through legislation reformation.
