Sony’s Playstation 3 was criticized during and immediately after its launch as offering no great titles to PS3 owners. In the years since its launch though, the PS3 has gotten an impressive library or new games to immerse players in some of the best high definition gaming experiences around. Unfortunately, it has retained that original stigma from years ago that it doesn’t offer any good games to players. With the wealth of new PS3 games at your fingertips, you can enjoy not only classics like Metal Gear Solid 4 but also brand new titles like the jaw dropping Killzone 2. Other titles like Little Big Planet are geared towards the family audience, and the PS3 offers games for every demographic.
A Plethora of Titles
All of the new PS3 games come on Sony’s impressive new media, Blu-ray. These discs can store many times the amount of data that DVDs can, allowing for such benefits as higher resolution textures and higher bit-rate audio for a more powerful experience. Some older titles only output at 720p resolution, but most of the new PS3 games support full 1080p for the best graphical fidelity possible. Also, Blu-ray movies look much better than normal DVD movies, provided you have an HDTV, and full digital audio sounds better as well. These features just aren’t available with the competition.
Once you start playing new PS3 games though, you may forget, at times, about the groundbreaking graphical effects and focus on the gameplay itself. Little Big Planet has one of the most innovative game styles out there today, while a game like Metal Gear Solid 4 hones down a proven track record to make it an even more fun tactical espionage action game. There are just so many to choose from that you will never get bored or run out of things to do in the games, and when you’re done with the single player aspect, you can go online and play multiplayer against friends or random strangers alike.
However, new PS3 games are just one part of the larger picture. The Playstation 3 isn’t just a game console – it’s an entire home entertainment system, allowing you to go online and watch movies (both Blu-ray and DVD). In fact, it’s one of the most cost effective Blu-ray players on the market, and the ability to update the firmware ensures that it will always work. Also, you don’t have to worry about problems that plague the other two next gen consoles, like the red ring of death for the 360 and the Wii’s propensity to sometimes not read new discs, as was a problem with Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
