Legal Concerns with Downloading PS3 Games

If you’re looking at how to download PS3 games, then chances are that you probably know most sites are illegal. Copyright infringement basically amounts to stealing, and downloading PS3 games can cost you some big money if you get caught. Chances are, however, that you won’t get caught, and even if you do, you’ll probably just be issued a stern note telling you to stop. Many torrent sites allow you to search for PS3 games that you can download and burn to a Blu-ray disc to play in your PS3, as you can also do with music, movies, books, and any other form of media that meets your fancy. However, any media protected by a copyright and not in the public domain is illegal to download and use in such a way.

Cultural Problems

Downloading PS3 games that aren’t expressly allowed by Sony or other companies through their downloading services built into the PS3 is illegal. You may not get caught, but that hardly makes it any less bad a thing to do. Sure, you might say that $60 is too much for a new game. You may not want to buy a new game, and you might be more willing to try out new games if it were easier to return them to stores. Then again, you might think that diamond rings are too expensive and not worth it, but that doesn’t mean you go around stealing jewelry every chance you get.

Unfortunately, many people don’t find anything wrong in downloading PS3 games so that they can play the most popular new titles for free. Before the Internet became popular, game pirating was much more rare. Game developers work hard on games, and they deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. Even if the game is mediocre at best, you can’t go around stealing games left and right just because you can. If a restaurant sells bad food at high prices, you can simply choose to not eat there. You don’t have to hang around in the kitchen to steal the food just so that you can eat it. Just go eat at a different restaurant instead of actually harming their business.

Some legitimate concerns that need to be discussed with the game developers and publishers are the use of DRM and the patching of games. DRM, or digital rights management, often harms those users that legitimately purchase games and really does nothing to curb game piracy. Also, companies are expected to patch their games from time to time. While they don’t always need to add new content to expand the game, they at least should be expected to provide a stable gaming platform for gamers to enjoy. Remember, instead of downloading PS3 games, you can simply choose to not play them.
