If you’ve always bought your PS3 games, there’s no reason that you need to continue always doing that. In fact, you can download free PS3 games through Sony’s built in PS3 browser. Sometimes, these are merely short game demos that last for about half an hour and don’t allow you to play the whole game, or there might be simple arcade games that you can download for free. For big titles though, you’ll end up paying for them, although Sony is adding more and more classic PSX and PS2 titles in their store for purchase and download. Be warned though, most downloading of free PS3 games is illegal and infringes on copyright protection, so knowing a few things about what is legal and what’s not can help you stay on the right side of the law.
Free is Better but Riskier
Everybody would love getting everything for free. Unfortunately, downloading free PS3 games online is often illegal and hurts the game developers who worked so hard to make the game a success. If we all followed the universal principle in philosophy, this would provide quite a problem. If you feel that it is all right to steal and everyone felt the same way, then everybody stealing everything would ruin the gaming business. Even if a game is reviewed well, there is a chance that development costs will exceed the the profits, especially if the game is heavily pirated, such as Crysis or Call of Duty 4 on the PC. While those still turned a profit, the employees at their respective companies worked incredibly hard to bring that awesome content to the masses, and instead of getting rewarded for their hard efforts, they had their games stolen by a large percentage of gamers. As you can see, downloading free PS3 games can have harmful impacts not only on companies but also the hard workers who put so much care into fashioning the games that you enjoy.
Of course, it’s not always the case. Sometimes, you’re required to complete a number of offers to be eligible for downloading free PS3 games, but more often than not, the physical media will be shipped to you. Most downloading takes place through torrents and other illegals forms of acquiring digital media. Most people wouldn’t steal cars or jewelry. However, the risks associated with stealing digital media are very low because it’s very easy to remain anonymous online, and as such, more and more people are downloading these games, movies, and music for free. No matter how you spin it, it is thievery.
