GENERICS – VERSUS – NAME BRAND MEDICATIONS WAR – WHO WON ?
Generic drugs are the same equilvalent to their Brand Name twins, there is no difference, just the patent expired on the original Brand Name thus enabling the Generic drug company to manufacture the same exact drug using the same formula and make it available to the public at a reduced price. Who wins in this war betwee the Generic drug companies and Brand Name companies, you win of course because the end result is your being able to purchase the same drug at a price that you can afford.
You might ask yourself why would the Brand Name company not make the drug available to the general public at the reduce price to start with right ?, well that can be easily explained. First thought would be that the big evil Brand Name company just wanted to fatten there pockets and profit of couse, but the truth is that the Brand Name company that actually discoverd the drug has to charge a higher price when they first bring the drug to market to recoup their R & D or Research & Development costs, the Generic Companies don’t have these costs because once the patent expires the Generic companies have the luxury to manufacture the same drug using the patented formula as a map to arrive at the end product minus all Research & Development costs.
