The LG 55LE8500 LED TV reviewed
LGs new Infinia series marks top of the line LED backlight LCD TVs with really impressive new features like local dimming and Wi-Fi connectivity. Experience a image quality you haven’t seen before.
On March 20, 2010 LG released a new series of LED backlight LCD televisions called Infinia. The 55LE8500 is one of the flagships of this series, a 55-Inch TV with some really impressive new features.
The LED backlit LCD display has a refresh rate of 240Hz which guaranties clear pictures without any blur effect even when watching fast action programs. The contrast ratio is 9M:1, alot higher than you are used to from most oflast years TVs in the same league.
Two innovations are really groundbreaking: First of all, the slim 55LE8500 display is THX certified, something very few TVs managed to achieve so far. The second, more important feature is the dimming technology used. Normally, LED backlight televisions a lit only from the edge is the display. Only few few, including this Infinia model, use local dimming sometimes called precision dimming, that lets the backlight dim or turn off in different areas across the display. The result is a brighter white and darker black as well as a improved image uniformity and less backlight fluctuations. You actually see the difference, it’s not just an improvement you don’t notice when watching the everyday TV program.
Overall, the 55LE8500 is certainly not the most affordable LED TV you can buy, but it offers an image quality only matched by very few competitors. The bezel design is clean and beautiful, no fancy colors.
