Finding Documentation on Portable Oxygen
Portable oxygen is a simple solution that can help many different people who still want to be on the go but also need to be on pure oxygen at all times. There are different sizes and types of pure oxygen tanks available, some of which last about five hours and some that can be hooked into a machine at times that will help them to last even longer after being out and about. Each person’s needs are different so that doctor will prescribe how much oxygen is needed at a time by the particular person. Oxygen from the tank is pure, meaning that it is one hundred percent oxygen and nothing else, which also means that it is flammable and can be dangerous if it is not cared for properly.
Types of Home Oxygen
There are three types of home oxygen systems, two of which are portable oxygen systems and the other has to be used almost exclusively in the home itself. Each of these systems has its advantages and disadvantages, so each individual and his doctor must talk through the benefits of each system and see which one best fits his needs and lifestyle.
The first of the systems is the oxygen concentrator which delivers the oxygen like the other systems do through a mask that the individual can wear or through a nasal tube called a nasal cannula which is often less inhibiting than a mask for most users. It does not deliver as much oxygen for the most part as the masks do, so the choice in delivery method depends on what the doctor recommends. The oxygen concentrator uses the oxygen that is already in the room, siphoning it out of the other air so that it will deliver pure oxygen to the individual who needs it. The air is about twenty-one percent oxygen, so the oxygen concentrator has to be run almost twenty-four hours per day in most cases. The benefit of such a system is that it does not require much maintenance and it never runs out, pulling from the air in the room. The down side is the noise of the motor, the higher electric bill and it cannot supply vast amounts of pure oxygen at a time.
The two portable oxygen systems are a liquid portable oxygen system and a compressed oxygen system. The liquid oxygen system is great for individuals who need to need to be on the go and cannot be disturbed by a noisy portable oxygen system. These store more oxygen than the compressed oxygen systems, can delivery high flow rates of oxygen and are basically silent, requiring no electricity to run. The downside is that it has to be filled by a technician. The compressed portable oxygen system can be dangerous if dropped since the oxygen is under pressure in the tank.
