AT&T Datacenters – How Datacenters Started

During the late 90’s when websites became more popular, datacenters then were also developed to near perfection. The previous computer systems before the datacenters were big in size that it consumed a huge amount of space and required numerous personnel to operate it. And because of the complexity and size of those computer systems, transferring them to a facility which purpose only is to provide services for people that are in need of datacenters’ services were made and done.

Due to the fact that these machines are very expensive, the security of its services and physical structure became an issue during those times. Mostly, during its early years, datacenters were used only by the military and other individuals who have valuable business enterprises.

The previous computer systems had numerous cables and the cables had to be organized to maximize the space where it is installed. And because of that a design that maximizes the space where datacenters are installed was developed. A vertical tray-like structure was made to support the machines and maximize the space of the room. During the time when computer systems were first introduced in the market, companies and even individuals got so excited that computers were bought and installed everywhere without even considering the space it consumes. The management of data and applications was also hard to do and accidental deletion of files was even more difficult to retrieve.

Not long enough, people demanded of a more efficient and user friendly system. The development of client to server networks was made. The servers then of this kind of system found a home in the previous computer systems that were used before. Because of the technology and knowledge of IT professionals today, new designs of datacenters were made. With websites growing more popular, organizations and companies recognized the value of having an Internet. Recognizing that importance, companies obtained reliable and fast speed Internet connections. Additionally, the operation must run non-stop to enable them to update the system.

The construction of huge dedicated facilities was built because of the demand of efficient services. These facilities were later called Collocation Centers. These Collocation Centers were then in-charge of handling the applications and data of other companies. They are also responsible for system updates and other services. These Collocation Centers transformed the world of datacenters. With the many demands and responsibilities of a data center, many companies and organizations have switched to this kind of service provider to eliminate the worry and hassles of operating and maintaining their own datacenters.

The importance of datacenters is very critical in a business. With datacenters, management of data, applications, tasks and other work loads will come easier.
