To say that the members of a regiment are tight is an understatement; they are comrades at arms that depend on each other for survival especially during a time of war.
The regiment system is one of the military structures that have been preserved. The system functions at its best when there’s a special need to work as a team, such as when small scale police actions are needed. The hierarchical structure of following orders is also useful for operations for stopping an insurgency. An autonomous unit system like that of a regiment is also useful when a military unit needs to be deployed away from the base.
