An Incurable Disease – HSV

Though Herpes or HSV, that Is Herpes Simplex Virus, is a condition occurring in one fifth of Americans, it is still possible to lead an ordinary existence, so long as one has the necessary information regarding the disease. It is incurable and can affect the face, genitals or the mouth in the skin or mucosa. In its more serious form it could hamper the central nervous system, and thereby the eyes or the brain. But this is more likely to occur when the immune system is immature or suppressed as in the case of AIDS patients, newborns or in transplant recipients.

The early signs of herpes are some sort of swelling, flu conditions and sores. It appears as sores and blisters on the face and mouth and in the genitals it is known as genital herpes or herpes. The virus is present in the sores and they can last either for a few days or three weeks after which they disappear. There is viral shedding in genital herpes but after a few years the disease reduces in its severity as well as visible occurrence.

One can contract this disease by coming in contact with the fluid content of the lesions, during physical contact, or even during viral shedding periods. Of course, barrier protection is possible, but this is not altogether protective though the chances of infection are reduced to some extent. You can easily identify the sores and blisters occurring on the face or mouth but to be sure one has to go for a laboratory testing of the ulcers.

Modern medicine has no cure for herpes but one can still control the spreading and the symptoms, by taking recourse to creams or some homeopathic cures. The virus will continue to dwell in the body, once the person is infected but the outbreaks reduce over the years. It is still possible to infect others though.

The viral shedding can be reduced to an extent by the use of Antiviral. Researchers have been trying to introduce many vaccines for preventing the disease, but with little success.
