Taking Your Motor Home to Europe
But if you are going to take your motor home abroad, then you will need to be properly prepared.
Check Your Insurance Cover
Before setting off, it is really important to find out exactly how much protection you have. Does your motor home insurance policy include European Cover? If not, then this must be taken out!
And do you get Roadside Recovery with your insurance? Breaking down is bad enough in England, but it will be far worse if it happens whilst you are in foreign climes.
Planning Your Route
Europe may be full of appealing places, but you should not try to visit them all straight off. If this will be your first European excursion, then do not bite off more than you can chew! Try to keep your initial journey as simple as possible and wait until your confidence grows before arranging that previously mentioned ‘multiple visit extravaganza’.
Choose a certain location that you finding especially appealing and stick to it! If you are going away with a friend or partner, then your destination should be agreed on well before you are due to leave. Changing your mind after setting off will only add complications to your journey; and this could quite easily turn a pleasant and relaxing break into a stressful and unpleasant one.
Book Your Campsite/s in Advance
To avoid disappointment (and a night in a lay-by) it is a very good idea to book your campsite/s in advance. There may well turn out to be bags of room at your destination/s, but it is always better to be safe than sorry!
And if you are getting in touch with campsites before you leave, you will get to know exactly what facilities they do/do not have.
Protect Your Valuables.
We all try to keep out possessions safe, but this is even more important when we are travelling abroad. It is an unfortunate fact that thieves will target foreign visitors (you!) and we need to be aware of this.
So, if you spot a beautiful landscape and you want to hop out and take a few photos, make sure that you lock all of your doors including your caravan doors!
It is so easy to become complacent when you are busy having a good time and criminals are well aware of this.
