Modeling and Talent Agencies-How to Avoid being Scammed
Most of us dream of being rich, being famous, and being in the limelight. Who would not want to be admired and loved by millions of people? One way to achieve this is to join the entertainment industry. There are millions of aspiring models, singers and performers out there who are flocking auditions and talent agencies just to get their share of fame. Because of this, there are also many scammers who will take advantage of the gullibility and the need of these people.
Basically there are no upfront fees when a manager wants to see you. You are giving your talents so that you will gain money, therefore, never trust someone coming from a talent agency who is asking for payments or fees because this is not a modeling class after all.
Modeling classes and modeling agencies are very different. Modeling classes are being paid by students who want to learn the tricks on being a model. Modeling agencies hire and provide modeling stints to an aspiring model, or even an experienced one.
Keep in mind that awareness and knowledge will be towards your advantage. Read contracts carefully, especially the fine print, because sometimes, fake or fly-by-night modeling agencies will try to scam you through the papers. Make sure you read the contract thoroughly. Check out their website if they have one, and do a decent research on the authenticity of a talent agency.
But beware, because scammers can do this too. They can also create a site just to show proof of their legitimacy. One thing you can do is to ask your mentors and the other people within your circle. Word of mouth is always the best testimonial.
For someone who is just starting in the modeling or entertainment agency, it is a good idea to enroll in an acting and modeling school. Not only will this make you become more experienced, but it will also give you credibility. However, be careful of scam talent agencies who will ask money for useless trainings and workshops. There are also times that scammers will get through your pocket by means of asking a fee for planes fares going to New York for example, so beware.
If you are enrolled in a talent workshop, you will have a better chance to improve yourself. Not only that, you can ask the people in your workshop, including your mentors, about the best and legitimate talent agencies that could help you.
As seen on reality shows like America’s Next Top Model, there are so many difficulties to overcome to get to the top. It is not an easy ride. It will never be a ride made easier by money. True success in any endeavor can only be qualified if you really worked hard on it.
