Get up in the morning and as you are getting ready to make your move to the office, you find a bird dropping feces on your shoes. You gnash your teeth and somehow control yourself from getting mad considering that it’s after all a bird. But again as soon as you try to regain your composure and as you get in your car you find that the same has also happened with your car front screen glasses. These birds can produce large quantities of unsightly and unhygienic feces. Some of these birds also have a very loud call that can be inconvenient for nearby residents, especially at night. There are many ways that have been used for driving these pigeons away like the pigeon deterrant. Generally bird control spike, also known as anti-roosting spikes or roost modification is used. They are used to deter pigeons (or even other birds) without causing them harm or killing them and hence also the name of Bird/Pigeon Deterrent. It is a device consisting of long, needle-like rods used for bird control attached to building ledges, street lighting, and commercial signage to prevent wild or feral birds from perching or roosting. Other methods of deterring birds are also used. These methods include physical deterrents, visual deterrents, chemicals and sonic/ultrasonic devices, trained birds of prey (falconry) and many others.
Most of the physical deterring devices used do not kill the birds and are therefore widely accepted. They are just meant to drive the birds away without allowing them to build their nests or settle down there and lay eggs etc. Other than them also many modern alternatives are available to drive these birds away. These include using some sonic/ultrasonic devices or producing some sounds that are either irritating to these birds or scare them away. Many of such sounds are available in the form of recorded CDs. All you’d need to do would be play these audio devices at a very loud sound for a fixed duration of time. The emitted sound would produce the signals of fear in these nesting birds and as an act of self protection they’ll turn away and not come around the place where they hear such sounds from. Hence this method can be considered as the easiest method by far to drive the bird away.
