Choosing Yoga Clothing

Yoga has been more popular in the west than ever before. It has been practiced for thousands of years in the east, however, and there are different types that people can participate in so that it matches their needs and skill levels. In order to practice yoga, there are specific things that are needed so that the person can be comfortable and practice yoga safely. Yoga mats, yoga clothing and keeping hydrated are important in order to participate in a yoga class either in the comfort of the home or in a class in a studio. These items can make the classes more enjoyable so that there are not any awkward moments or sore body parts from having to be pressed against the floor while holding the poses.

Mats and Clothing

The yoga mat is an important piece of equipment that a person needs to participate in a yoga class at home or in a gym. The yoga mat is only about a half inch thick so that it provides a little cushion for the buttocks and other body parts when holding poses, but also provides a stable base for holding poses that require balance. In addition, the mats are usually made of a rubber material that keeps the person’s feet from slipping when holding the poses so that they do not have to keep readjusting the legs and hands in order to hold them. This allows the people to concentrate on holding the poses correctly rather than having to concentrate on the slipping that is going on.

The yoga clothing is also important to the practice of yoga. Yoga clothing differs for men and women. Men’s yoga clothing usually is in the form of shorts that have a liner in them so that they are not exposed when doing poses. Sometimes tights are worn or some comfortable sweat pants which flow with the movements but do not impair them. The shirt is usually a tight fitting t-shirt or tank top, which wicks the water away from the skin and allows the person to move freely. The women’s yoga clothing consists of a high topped sports bra that does not allow the breasts to fall out when doing the upside down poses. Tank tops or t-shirts like the men wear are also appropriate. Tights or cropped pants are often worn for good movement and comfort in yoga clothing for women, allowing them comfort without exposure while in the classes.
