Tips to Care of Valuable Leather Apparels
Leather clothing is an ideal choice to look your best at any event due to its unmatched versatility and its quality of always being in vogue. This strong and sturdy apparel will do wonders in protecting you from inclement weather and at the same time give your looks a mystic appeal. Leather clothing can last for years without deteriorating much but proper care needs to be taken to keep it young and fresh.
The following simple tips would guide you in how to take care of your valuable leather apparel:
• Storing: The way your leather clothing is stored in your wardrobe is extremely important. Your leather apparel should ideally be stored in a cool, dry, properly ventilated place. Other clothes should not be kept on your leather apparel as this will prevent air circulation. Your leather clothing should never be kept in moist conditions or directly under the sunlight. If possible hang your leather clothing on a wide wooden, plastic or padded hanger to retain its original shape. Avoid metal hangers at all cost, also never store your leather wear in plastic bags.
• Cleaning: Leather clothes are not meant to be cleaned like normal clothes as constant contact with moisture can stiffen the leather. While cleaning, use a soft damp cloth to clean the stain or dirty surface. As far as possible avoid using detergents but if absolutely necessary, use mild detergents. Several leather cleansing kits are available in the market nowadays and you may use one of it but make sure to read the instructions carefully before using. If you find it hard to clean the clothing by yourself, it is better to go for professional help.
• Conditioning: Your leather clothing also needs conditioning to help lubricate the leather and restore its suppleness. However, avoid conditioning products that contain petroleum or mineral oils as they will damage the leather in long run. Your leather wear needs frequent conditioning in hot or moist weather.
• Polishing: To keep your leather apparel shiny and glossy, polish it with a fine polishing agent. But keep in mind that some polishing agents may contain coloring agents that might stain the leather’s natural color and hence should be avoided.
• Removing Wrinkles: Most wrinkles on leather apparels are straightened by hanging them upright on a non-metallic hanger. However, if the wrinkles are not straightened by this method you can try ironing it (with extreme caution). Never put the iron in direct contact with the leather, always use a 100% cotton cloth in between the iron and the leather garment. Use the iron on low heat setting to avoid any damage to the leather.
I have been smitten by fashion right since childhood. This field has always fascinated me. When I got an opportunity to work on the leather fashion industry, leather jackets for women, leather jackets and leather pants, I considered it and since then there’s no looking back.
