Love handles are those rolls of fat that extend from the abdomen around the sides of the body. Depending on weight there can be one set of love handles or many. These are the most difficult areas to trim down with exercise and diet and many people choose to use girdles to help hide the area considered love handles in order to get a better fit in pants, slacks, or dresses.
What Causes the Area Considered Love Handles?
While fat seems to be the obvious cause of the area considered love handles in reality those flabby areas are caused by weak abdominal muscles. The obliques are the most often overlooked area even when people are heavily committed to exercising. There are other reasons beyond simply being overweight that can cause that area considered love handles.
Stress: Stress is a leading factor in many forms of weight gain but it can make losing that area of fat pockets known as love handles even more difficult. A build up of fat around the abdomen especially caused by stress is a serious detriment to health and a leading factor in heart attacks and strokes even more than more evenly distributed fat.
Insulin Resistance: Insulin resistance is another leading factor in the cause of the area considered love handles. If you have love handles but do not have fat covering other areas of your body it is a good idea to get tested for diabetes.
Inappropriate exercise routines: Not understanding the muscle system involved in the area considered love handles can lead to an abundance of exercise without result. Include plenty of exercises that twist the midsection and aerobic workouts as well.
Common Misunderstandings Surrounding Love Handles
There are no certain foods more likely to cause the area considered love handles but bad eating habits can create a problem in that and other areas. Eating too late and going to bed on a full stomach encourages a fat build up.
You do not have to exercise every day for hours at a time in order to get rid of the area considered love handles. In fact daily exercise is bad for the muscles because it doesn’t allow them to recover between periods of stress. A good exercise routine will include a rest on alternate days and occur no more than three times per week. This does not include a good aerobic workout which is great for every area of the body including that area considered love handles every day.
