As the culture progressed the belief in God also changed to the present form. But the question, why the humans believe God? Whether God exists or not are still not resolved. It is a fact that a majority of the people believes in God irrespective of their status and qualification (about 90%). Why they believe is not yet clear. Many suggest that it is the nature of the human being, which makes them to believe in God. Some says the urge for living under the care of a higher being. There are other thoughts also. Though people believe in God and religion the question why one believes in God and religion is disturbing the mind of any believers. But it is interesting to know the reason for believing the God. On a close examination of various issues like degree of belief in various individuals, their demographics, personality etc, it can be stated that it is the individual need for living under the guidance and care of a super human which makes him believing on God.
Spiritual Autobiography Guidelines Part 1:
Describe your very earliest images of God’
My earliest encounter with God is when I was a child, because I was brought up in a family of Christianity. My parents and grandparents were people who believed in God and they consulted God all the time through prayers. In my early ages I attended James chapel baptize church until 1973, when I joined the army. At this point, I remained idle Christianity for a period of ten years. The images of God that were developed in my mind for this period were that God was holy, and he needed to be respected. Religion by then was binding to me because I was Godfearing. This means that my encounter with God was due to my upbringing although I did not have a true image of God because in was following a custom of our family. As I was a young person I was taking in what was said.
A number of people play an important role in shaping up the images of God. Some of this people were my parents and grandparents. This people played an important role in shaping up my belief in God although the belief was not a serious one because it was not based on my idea and thought. This is why I became idle in 1973, when I was growing up and educated. At this point I had not seen any logic behind existence of God apart from going to church as my parents and grandparents did.
However this position changed when I travelled to Germany and back. My wife met a mentor Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Johnson who invited us to their church. At this point my encounter with God was rekindled, I was baptized in the same church in 1987 and a great of things were happening to my life at that time. The main reasons why the second encounter with God was rekindled I was away from home and I needed guidance, the guidance I got was from God.
