30 Oct 2009, New Delhi: Sainik Welfare Orgaization, a Non Governmental Organization, based in New Delhi is now providing economical and reasonable housing projects to Sainiks who have a wish to build their dream homes in places they long to reside in. They are giving plots, apartments and farm houses at a cost 15-25% lesser than the market rate at no loss-no profit basis. The organization conducted a Location Demand Survey (LDS) to find out the preference of cities and towns where soldiers and their family members aspire to own a house after retirement from active service. The result was a list of 40 cities and towns, consisting of mostly metro cities.
SWO- India began with the objective of providing low-priced plots, apartments and farm houses to all segments of the state uniformed personnel, serving and retired from defence, paramilitary and central security personnel, their widows and dependants. In Location Demand Survey the recommendation and suggestions of the eligible beneficiaries (in details on website) have been collected through mails, SMSs and telecalling. At these locations the organization has offered plots of sizes: 140, 200 and 300 sq yards, apartments and farm houses.
The list of 40 cities includes Jaipur, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Rewari, Lucknow, Mohali, Meerut, Dera Bassi and Agra etc. The Survey, completed in June 2009 marked clearly a definite preference for metro cities in the choice of residence, as they offer plenty of opportunities in terms of employment and re-employment. Cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Pune,Goa, Indore, Jodhpur, Shimla and Rohtak have been voted exceedingly.
Out of the two projects in Jaipur, the first one at Dighi-Malpura Road at Sanganer was inaugurated last month and will be ready for handover in the period of one year. The organization has launched three schemes this month on the occasion of Diwali – Lucknow, Mohali and Zirakpur. Lucknow project is located in Bakkas on Mastmau Road, 1.8 kms away from Lucknow – Sultanpur (NH-56). The Mohali project is located at Kharar, a town close to Chandigarh in Kharar(Mohali), – 200 mts off Chandigarh-Ropar Highway.
Besides the cut in cost, the organization offers additional discount of 2% for LDS registrants plus an incentive for the gallantry award winners. Ashok Chakra awardees will be given free plots, whereas, winners of Kirti and Shourya Chakra will get plots with 50 per cent deduction. Widows of deceased soldiers are allowed a discount of additional 5% on purchase of property. Applicants are to make easy payment in interest free installments. All forms of loan guidance will be provided by the organization.
Besides the accommodation services, organization also intends to offer educational training, under which short term courses and diploma certificates will be given in various subjects, which will equip them to start a new career after retirement from force. We help soldiers to transform their military training into a civilian job by helping them write resumes, search for employment, attend job and career fairs and polish their interview skills. Moreover, the NGO plans to organize donations to provide financial assistance to the soldiers discharged from the military.
