Foods that are Good for your Teeth

Are you aware that the things you eat and drink can have more of an impact on brightness of your smile than consistent and effective brushing?

An unhealthy diet filled with too many bad things might not be enough to keep your teeth healthy even if you brush three times a day.

Here is our quick guide to the foods that can not only help reduce the risk of cavities, but actually improve the health of your teeth and gums too. Make sure you don’t damage your teeth over time by including enough of these foods every day.

Seeds:

From sunflower seeds and sesame seeds to pumpkin seeds, these are great snacks not only because they’re a good energy boost, but also because they are high in calcium. This means that they have cleaning properties and can strengthen the surface of your teeth – great news for your smile! They make a great alternative to chewing gum.

Try adding seeds to soups and salads – they’re really versatile and can be used in many different recipes. Alternatively just keep some on the desk to nibble on between meals.

Milk:

Milk, as many people know, contains a lot of calcium. This nutrient is really great for skin, nails and teeth alike. Although you may not be aware that milk also contains a lot of sugar, its high calcium content easily makes up for this.

Cheese:

There’s loads of calcium in cheese too, and because it has a lower carbohydrate ratio than milk it’s even better for your teeth. Cheese balances the pH level of your mouth, whereas milk can jeopardise it. You still have to be careful though – if you often eat cheese in conjunction with fatty foods then this will negate its good qualities, so it’s not an excuse to gorge on pizza.

Water:

Drinking water regularly is a fantastic way to keep your teeth protected and your mouth healthy. Not only does it completely cleanse your mouth, gullet and stomach, but it also balances the pH levels in all these areas, neutralising any acidity and keeping you healthy. If you take only one thing away from this article, it should be to drink plenty of water every day. Your teeth will be better protected from damaging substances.

Onions:

This may sound odd, because many people associate onions with bad oral hygiene because they cause bad breath. This is not the case though: they have powerful natural cleaning agents which are great for keeping your teeth healthy – just make sure you have plenty of gum to hand!

  1. breath cure says:

When I notice a client has halitosis/bad breath or tonsil stones despite having healthy teeth & gums, I advise the client to visit the site of Oraltech Labs as I had no idea what the cause of their bad breath was and I didn’t want to embarrass both of us by saying it. I can report that most clients return visits have undetectable Halitosis/bad breath. So if all else fails direct them to Oraltech Labs. USA & UK. Association of Dental Health
