Strobe Lights the brightest flashing warning light you could have

A flashing bright strobe light on an emergency vehicle is hard to miss. That is why strobe lights are still a popular method of warning today. Strobe lights have been with us for some time, but due to their high visibility, they are hard to beat as additional warning on emergency vehicles.

Something that was in use as long ago as 1911 on steamships you would think had no place in today’s world. Well, you would be wrong. Strobe lights were used as a kind of mechanical failure warning sign on the ships, and the first documented use was from a Royal Navy seaman’s manual. There are very few things we use today that have remained unchanged over that length of time.

So why are strobe lights still popular? The main reason is their high visibility, not only are they easily seen in driving rain, snow and sunlight, but also they are visible round 360-degrees. Lightbars have their place on emergency vehicles but the one downside to these is that many of the units can only be seen from a direct view or line of vision. The simple strobe lights are still one of the brightest emergency lights around. The way a strobe flashes illuminates a wide area, and is therefore visible at a distance.

We tend to think of strobe lights as just for emergency vehicles but they can be used on construction sites and vehicles. Strobe lights are also used on many municipal vehicles such as refuse collectors, as the flash pattern is easily visible and warns that the vehicle is there and probably moving slowly. Rotating strobe lights are hard to miss and that is why they are ideal in so many different environments and weather conditions. Even in the worst of conditions, a slowly rotating strobe is easily seen.

Of course as with anything, technological advances now allow us to have LED strobe lights. These don’t work in the same way as the original strobe light but do give the same effect and the 360-degree visibility. Strobe lights today can have halogen bulbs or have the same construction as they did in the past, which includes a gas chamber with an electric current and capacitor. Whatever kind of strobe light you go for you get superior light and visibility. The fact that the strobe lights are still in use today is a testament to how effective it is as a warning signal.

Flashing lights are hard to ignore, and a flashing strobe lights are even more difficult to ignore. Any flashing light is indicative of a problem, emergency or hazard warning, and as such, we should never ignore them. Therefore, if you are a doctor and need some form of visible emergency light, a construction worker who needs to warn that their vehicle is moving slowly or an emergency personnel worker who needs additional warning on their vehicle, strobe lights could just be the thing for you.
