Relevancy and Usability

These elements are generally most important to the human visitor to a page, but benefitting the user is a great way to gain more visitors and more rank. Being constantly accessible and easy to understand can only benefit a site through loyalty from current customers and increased numbers of new customers.

The relevancy of a site to the keywords is of utmost importance. Relevancy describes how close a relationship is between two separate objects. When comparing the text of an article on a website with the keywords used to describe that article, the article is most relevant if the article mentions and relates to that keyword exactly. If the keyword is “classic cars,” then the article is relevant if the words “classic cars” show up often, are fully understandable within the article by the human reader, and the article relates to those words. In other words, relevancy strives to answer the question, “Is the article really about classic cars?” If so, the article is more relevant to those keywords than if the article were about cars in general and briefly mentioned classic cars.

Usability, on the other hand, is one of those human-only characteristics that must not be overlooked when creating a site. Usability describes how easy a site is for someone to use. Do all the links make sense? Does a person know exactly where they are going when they click on a link? Is the text easy to read and understand? Do the graphics load quickly? Does the page structure allow the eye to easily see exactly what’s on the page? These are all some of the questions that can determine a page’s usability. If a site is not usable, the site will most likely lose potential customers.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism, or copying copyrighted text from someone else without their expressed permission, is something SEO writers must avoid at all costs. There are many forms of plagiarism, from the innocent repetition of phrases, to full-on copying. Sometimes plagiarism is unintentional. Sometimes plagiarism is egregious and completely intentional. Either way, this can harm a website in several ways.

First, duplicating text will cause the site to lose page rank within search engines. Now that search engine algorithms have become more complex, these databases are able to spot copied text, even if the keywords have been changed. If, for example, one website decided to take text from another site and post the article on a page, they’ve committed plagiarism and run the risk of lowered search engine ranking or even a flat-out ban. Even if the writer tries to change around words, or change keywords, he or she is still committing plagiarism.
