Flight attendant sacked for stealing ugg boots
Spril Woolley firmly believes style should be a reflection of your personality, not the latest offerings in the mall.
“Fashion is one thing,” she says. “Style is something different.”
After losing more than 80 pounds and keeping it off for eight years, Mrs. Woolley, now 46 and a curvy size 12, says her sense of style remains much the same as it was when she was a 30-something size 20.
Her wardrobe staples are well-fitting suits and classically styled dresses. She personalizes her look with accessories such as jewelry, funky footwear and animal print scarves.
How would you describe your personal style?
Subdued chic. I mix non-flashy pieces with items of interest. I am a big believer in textured fabric and details.
What’s the most important thing to remember when it comes to style?
Style is an attitude, not a piece of clothing or trend. Your style should be an expression and extension of you.
What does your style say about you?
My style says I am confident, successful and trustworthy.
Do you follow trends or your instincts?
No matter what the subject, I follow my instincts and my gut. Style is personal. Trends are dictated by someone else. My instincts are mine.
What’s your favourite piece of clothing?
My Frank Lyman jersey wrap dresses. They are perfect for any occasion.
What’s next on your must-buy list?
Knee-high, brown leather boots with two-inch heels and an aggressive, non-slip tread —marvelous for the Canadian fall/winter season.
How important are accessories?
Accessories rule. Accessories done right make a lasting impression and create easy detail. A scarf tied to the side of your neck, a belt buckle with your initial or just the right amount of perfume.
What’s your favourite accessory?
Jewelry — necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings, brooches.
Where are some of your favourite places to shop?
Laura, Roots, consignment stores and all shoe stores.
If money were no object, what ugg boots bailey button piece of clothing or accessory would you most love to have?
A Valentino everyday dress, designed and fitted just for me.
Does style come easy to you or is it something that you’ve had to work at?
I would say it has come easy to me. I am not afraid to experiment and I have always been fascinated in fashion. Over time, I continue to refine what I want from my style.
In today’s economy, are you able to stay stylish and not break the bank?
Absolutely. That is a huge part of the rush, if you will, being able to purchase, at fair prices, quality, engaging pieces. Consignment stores are fabulous for this.
Are there any tips you can give to North of the City readers who may be a little style challenged?
Get a professional bra fitting at least ugg boots knit every two years, then invest in some good bras. It’s money well spent.
Trust yourself. Experiment with looks and pieces you are attracted to. Don’t be intimidated.
Understand and accept that the fashion industry is not “size” regulated. One maker’s size 12 may fit perfectly, while another maker’s size 12 is too small or too big. Try things on. There is absolutely no reason for clothing to be ill fitting. If you are still having trouble, take some pictures with you and ask a trained sales associate for input.
