Why Repairing A Running Toilet Is Necessary?
Earlier plumbing was a very serious profession as the sewer gases coming out of the homes create high pressure and there by resulting to explosion. The modern ventilation systems installed at homes has given a different look to the profession. The plumber does not have to handle any pipes and hazardous gases. To fix a running toilet all you need is to adjust a few hardware parts or replace some parts.
Maladjusted or worn-out pieces of toilet hardware allow water to run continuously from the tank to the toilet bowl and down the pipe, eventually emptying the tank. There’s also a slow leak running toilet that’s quiet and not easily detectable, but will also empty the tank before long.
It is really bothersome to have a running toilet in the regular working of our daily lives. The running water wastes a lot of water and also makes noise which is really annoying. Rather hiring a plumber, try your hands on some simple adjustments and it may happen that you will solve the problem.
If you go through some easy do-it-yourself repair steps, you will not only save time and money but also repair the running toilet problem for a longer period.
You need to have knowledge about the general mechanism of the toilet before fixing a toilet. You will get many various class, and kinds of toilet, but the process of using the toilet always remains the same. So the ultimate thing to do is pick up the toilet lid, press the flush button and witness the process.
First check the guide rod or chain on the tank stopper. If the rod is bent or the chain links are twisted, just straighten them. Next check the float mechanism. If lifting the ball up stops the water from running, try to bend the float arm down to get the right buoyancy. If you notice that the ball has water in it, it needs to be replaced. Replace it by unscrewing it from the arm and putting a new one in its place.
After replacing the ball, if the running toilet still continues, then there may be a chance that the valve seat and stopper may have rusted checking the stopper from closing. At that time lift the stopper up and look for any objects. If you find any damage, then you have no other option but to replace the valve seat and the stopper.
To make sure that you have got a right match for your parts, do not forget to take the old parts with you when you are buying a new one.
