How to find the Best Usenet Binaries and download them

Besides discussions the Usenet is really popular for file downloads of all kinds these days. But the non-binary newsgroups are very helpful for getting information or support for a specific problem. In the biggest groups, which are called binary groups, you can find about any movie, picture, song or software you can think of.

The common protocol which is used here is called NNTP – Network News Transfer Protocol. This is an Internet application protocol which is primarily used for reading and posting Usenet articles. Founded by Brian Kantor in 1986 NNTP is also standard for transferring news among news servers.

There are many different newsreaders which can be downloaded for free. Depending on your interests there are text newsreaders which are optimized for reading and posting in discussion groups. And there are binary newsreaders which are programmed to decode articles back to files which you can download from uncensored newsgroups.

Because it’s quite a time and traffic consuming way to download headers many Newsreader clients also accept NZB files. These are files which lead to a specific download location. The advantage is you can download certain files without downloading headers. In these NZB files there’s information stored in which group your client can find the files, how many there are and how they’re named.

To avoid downloading the headers you can create NZB files from the uncensored web based search engines. They lead your Usenet reader to the download location of your selected files. This way you can download specific files without checking and downloading headers from different newsgroups.

Most of the binary files which get released in newsgroups are compressed in zip or rar archives. Due the fact that the files are sometimes quite big they get split up in smaller rar parts. This has the advantage that if you download a broken file you can easily load just the one broken part again.

Often your Internet service provider offers you free Usenet access. You can also find a lot of free newsgroups server online. Despite they offer the access unfortunately they’re mainly only good for accessing discussion groups. They only offer a part of the existing newsgroups and censor all binary newsgroups. Apart from that they’re really slow and you’re not browsing the newsgroups anonymously.

Many of the paid Usenet providers offer totally uncensored newsgroups, anonymous access and also posting. So these providers don’t log your ip adress or log or keep the names of the files you downloaded in any way. You’ll get access on a secure base through a SSL encrypted connection mostly with no extra charge.
