Tips on How to Help Your Child Overcome Anxiety

Not many adults realize this but children do suffer from anxiety. Many of us think that stress only exists in grown-up people but the fact is, it exists in children as well. Although it is a different kind of stress but one thing for certain is that kids do suffer from anxiety which another form of mild stress.

We may see our kids play and are running around like there is no other around or don’t have a care in the world, but if you pay good attention to your kids, you will observe that they can be overwhelmed by anxiety in other times. Therefore, this is an issue that can be developed into serious problem and should not be taken lightly.

Perhaps you are wondering how anxieties can creep up into your children, well there are many situations that your kids can pick up anxieties. For instance, they are very sensitive and intuitive in picking up fearful signals. If you feel or act fearful in a certain situation, kids can pick up on that pretty quickly.

Therefore, be very careful of what you teach or act in front of your children as they can pick up an act from adult very quickly and form a bad habit out of it. Also, children can become anxious and fearful in situations where they are taught to feel that way.

1. Help your child relax, find activity that can make your child to enjoy and laugh out loud. Different children may enjoy different activities so make sure you know your kids well and invite them to play what they like and enjoy.

2. Be positive when you are around with your children. Say and act in a positive way. Never discuss issues that are sensitive such as religion conflicts, racist jokes or even politics.

3. Teach your child to look at the bright side of life. Explain to your kids that there are always two sides of a story, there is always positive and negative in every situation. Help them to build confidence to see solution in every problem.

These are just some of the tips you can use to help your child to get rid of anxieties. Again, do not take this thing lightly as anxieties can ruin your children’s future. Spend more time playing and understanding your kids. Find out what activities that they really enjoy and what situations make them fearful. Explain to them why certain situation makes them fearful and help them to see the positive sides. Teach them the skill to communicate and help them to build self confidence. When they have self confidence, anxieties and fears cannot creep up on them easily.
