Intellectual Autobiography

As I look back into the past and try to analyze my previous achievements and successes, I do realize that I will never regret having chosen professional pathway in nursing. As an RN for 25 years, I gradually moved to doing a master’s in nursing education, but graduate school opens a new page in my professional development. By attending graduate school I will not only improve my personal and professional record, but will have a unique chance to share my knowledge and expertise with younger generations.
Throughout my life I learned to use my skills and knowledge in a constructive way. In other words, I was always trying to make use of my talents in a way that would benefit people around me, me personally, and society in general. Personal growth and career development were and remain the two predominant values that govern my decisions and actions. Being an RN has probably become one of the most tremendous and most rewarding personal and professional experiences in my life – the experience, which showed me how I must move and act in order to fulfill my career growth tasks and achieve my goals. I have learned to be a good listener. I have learned to communicate my thoughts in a comprehensive and friendly manner. Years in nursing have taught me extreme patience and individual balance, and from merely being a nursing professional I have slowly become a professional with an acute sense of sharedness in everything I do. This sharedness of knowledge and my desire to teach younger generations professional and personal skills have predetermined my decision to enter graduate school.
Although my life was colored with failures and mistakes, and although sometimes I found it difficult to balance my personal life with professional activity, my motivation and force to pursue my goals did not leave any room for disappointment and pessimism. My motivation for success and constant intellectual work did not leave me a single chance to perish in the waves of personal confusion and professional immaturity. Having realized that my main goal was to excel in research and education, I prepared myself to difficulties. I was particularly interested in researching diabetes and heart disease but sometimes, the need to combine home, full time job, family, and school was a burden I had to carry in order to realize myself in nursing. Nevertheless, even in the face of difficulties I did not lose the sense of commitment to education and research. Even in the face of difficulties, entering graduate school for me looked like a matter of making my life rewarding, fulfilling, and real. I could not imagine myself without being dedicated to others, and it is through entering graduate school that I can realize my persistent striving to become a recognized and self-fulfilling professional.
