Working Hispanic Culture
Sometimes a rewarding occupation can be more than the financial success. There are thousands jobs where the personal satisfaction is considered the quest for the enormous dollar. A career as a counselor needs to think about all these things and his/her job is to help the people work out problems. At first it is very important to know what a counselor should offer to the clients as a mean of service. A counselor is a person who helps people to be informed about personal, family, social, career as well as educational decisions.
In the daily life, the counselor has to meet several types of cultural group to give them advice and information according to their needs and expectations. Hispanic group is one of them and there are many possible issues a counselor might face in working with a member of that group. The term Hispanics are used to describe the culture and those people who come from Spain and countries formerly ruled by it.
This paper is to find out the possible issues a counselor might face in working with a member of that group and these possible issues are described below:
School and college counselors: Hispanic people often face problems in their school and college life. There are numerous situations where they are unable to solve the problems.
Among the problems, the problem occurred in the school and college life is the most objectionable field, which the counselor needs to deal with. It is very important from various aspects due to its objectives and the way it is done. In this issue, the counselor help students to identify the abilities and interest and how to develop academic plans and different angles of career options. They also help by giving advice on choosing major, admission qualifications and requirements, taking entrance exam and on vocational and technical training. Besides this, cope with the social problems are also discussed and all these are done in one-on-one or small groups or even a classroom.
This type of consultant is done with parents, teachers trying to solve the problem that the students are facing. The counselors are involved with social and individual counseling mostly and observe children at playing games and in the classroom.
College career counselors: College career has become another important field where the Hispanic people are facing a lot of challenges and for which they need assistance from third party. They inform counselor about these issues and the counselor in this field are need to be well organized. As the cultural issues are the most relevant things regarding the job of counselor, it is well expected that they would be expert in this field. Therefore, the task is to help the future graduates for job seeking strategy by assisting the students in creating professional resumes, or conduct mock interviews to help students become more comfortable with the environment they are going to face in real life.
