The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck is very particular about the depiction of the novel through his plot and characters. It is through Tom Joad that Steinbeck highlights the issues of being paroled from prison due to homicide. The author adds the character of former preacher, Jim Casy with Joad and elaborates the scenes of poverty and helplessness among the natives. The Joads, with Jim Casy decides to leave Oklahoma, in search of a better life, and it is here that the author depicts the common motive that persisted in most of the families that they met in their journey. A journey to California makes the author deal with the sensitiveness of his countrymen and he illustrates the consequences when these characters are forced to confront for a future with more living options. The realizations related to the cycle of life have been interpreted through the death of Grandpa and Grandma. Steinbeck dealt with the issues of decent wages, lack of rights and the collusion of the big corporate farmers. Steinbeck presented a gleam of hope at Weedpatch. This is the process of showing the possibilities for a resettlement and a new beginning. However even this place is lacking in money and space for all the migrants. Steinbeck forwarded the descriptions about the exploitations made over the laborers, and how these exploitations resulted in the emergence of workers’ unions. These emergences created the conflicts between the strikeholders and the strikebreakers. These conflicts further leads to instances of murders and violent uproars. Every particular character of the novel has been structured to make these practical elaborations more appropriate (Anthony,, 2007). In this attempt Steinbeck painted his society and created enough awareness about those systems of exploiting labors.
