Building Energy-Efficient Datacenters
In mid this year, a company has completed in Santa Clara, California, the amazing 50,000 square foot datacenter. The said edifice is being considered as the most efficient center whose characteristics include the so-called projected annualized $750,000 rebate for efficiencies in design and innovations from Silicon Valley Power, as well as the LEED Gold designation.
Reports from independent consultants have it that the efficiencies of 2901 Coronado will be able to save over $750,000 in power consumption, or nearly 10 million kilowatt hour annually.
The reliability levels of Tier III or Tier IV datacenters is one problem that really haunts every IT manager or any datacenters provider as a whole, and this is because of inefficiency that is also shaping up. In contrast, a data center in Santa Clara, is designed by experts, to meet its goal of using air-side economization, pump packages, efficient and modular UPS units, variable speed drivers especially on air-handling units, and ultrasonic humidification. The engineering design, according to experts, is one major contributor to the so-called superior datacenters efficiency. However, the customers have also committed themselves to make data center developments and enhancements like the hot or cold aisle systems, blanking panels, a well as directed ducting, making sure of the efficiency in the cooling system performance.
“We are encouraged by our customers’ support of chilled water inlet temperatures as high as 76F, an expanded operating band for humidification of 20-80%, and their trust in our commitment to improving efficiency without reducing reliability,” the company executive said.
The datacenters company is also committed to allocate important resources in order to maintain the reduction of operating expenses. In fact, to be able to support this plan, P.U.E optimization projects are now ongoing in the country
“We have also made considerable investments in systems to monitor, control and report on energy consumption. Our branch circuit monitoring systems (BCMs) allow for real-time monitoring of customer power usage as well as other electrical monitoring points to automatically calculate P.U.E. This allows customers to share in the benefits of energy-efficient initiatives, by paying for only what they use. Usage-based power pricing is a significant incentive for customers to push for IT improvements on their end such as reducing inefficiencies in server operation,” the company executive added.
There are many ways how we can build energy efficient datacenters all over the world. The only thing that is needed is the kind of help we can get from the private sector. Large companies using datacenters are also planning of going green to help protect the environment in the process. Well, this is a good sign of maturity among stakeholders of greening the environment programs, to make sure the private sectors are working hand in hand with the State and the Federal.
In future, it is also expected that more and more companies will be able to show more concern about the growing energy consumption levels, which may endanger the so-called thickening of the ozone layer problem. Going green by these multi-national companies in the country is one of the best things that ever happened to the stakeholders of efficient and very effective datacenters.
