When an individual is denied a fair treatment or service from any organization, department or individuals due to the color of his or her skin, it is unfair treatment. Discrimination of natives in the federal government of Canada is a deep rooted vice that has been carried out for a long period of time. Some of the areas that are adversely affected by the malpractice are education sector, employment, abuse and injustices against the minority. This is as a result of generational change from the colonial set up which advanced the element of discrimination whereby slaves were treated as less equal to slave owners. This had many impact to self esteem, liberty and freedom to access most amenities and rights. The challenge to this vice has been the implementation of the federal government policies to address the problem adequately without being seen as a supporter of discrimination in the society.
There are different forms of discrimination within any location. These can be in the form race, nationality, physical appearance, gender or sex and other social and economic opportunities like education, employment and access to fair and timely justice practices. In the federal government of Canada, there are reports of various forms of discrimination. There are cases of unfair methods of hiring or employing people, unfair court and police treatment from the federal agencies, schools admitting on the basis of social status of an individual or his ancestral descendants. There are cases of unfair treatment of prisoners, especially native women in the federal correctional facilities. Despite the spirited calls from the United Nations to the federal government to honor the human rights for all citizens, there are still challenges facing the government. There are cases of discrimination in employment opportunities, workplaces, schools, courts and other social places.
The federal prisons are filled with the natives who were convicted for multiple offences. For instance, the term of service for a native woman serving a jail sentence for drug trafficking is more harsh than a non native person. The natives are prone to more crime as a result of neglect from the government and the failure of the government to implement and regulate proper guidelines and policies to safeguard against any form of discrimination.
