Designer Pens – A Dyeing Art
In a world of PC’s, Laptops, and smart phones what is to happen not only to pens but to the fine art of writing?
More importantly for an industry like ours (designer pens) is how can the current manufacturers of Fine writing pens keep producing a product that can compete with the latest iPhone, big screen TV or electronic note pad.
This year the major pen manufacturers are leading the charge with a desire to better the current designer pens in every way, shape and form. That hasn’t just mean using better materials, designs and craftsmanship. It has meant creating an emotional attachment for the buyer before purchase so that the pen becomes more than a writing instrument it becomes a symbol.
S T Dupont has taken charge or the situation with its release of the Defi range of pens. The marketing is nothing if not exceptional. Likened to a fighter jet with sharp laser like lines this pen actually looks better in your hand than on the shelf. S T Dupont have even gone as far as to produce a multi-function pen within the range with four different options.
Arriving late November 2009 the Lamy Dialog 3 is a new innovation from Lamy, their first retractable fountain pen. It is a large size cigar shaped pen and as you would expect, really sleek in design. The clip has been made retractable as is accustomed to retractable fountain pens to stop people putting them in their pockets with the nib facing downwards. This wouldn’t be a problem anyway as there is a unique ball type cap that slides over the end of the retracting nib end when the pen is closed.
The Dialog 3 was born from the same idea as the Pilot capless fountain pen but has a beautifully smooth twist action mechanism as opposed to the Pilot push button mechanism. The Dialog 3 has a 14-Kt gold nib and is available in all sizes ranging from EF to OB which is great news. If you want a sneak preview of the new Dialog 3 then have a look on our website.
