Osteopathic Physician
It is clear to me that if I have to be a good osteopathic physician; I have to possess certain basic qualities. Though I cannot claim that I am a perfect or ideal match, I believe that with the qualities, character and experience I possess, I am simply the best primary care, rural osteopathic physician trainee. To begin with, I am all rounded not only in my medical career, but also in other aspects of life. For this reason, I am well conversant with what is required of me if I was to be trained as an osteopathic physician; I also understand that rural areas are different from urban areas and therefore medical strategies that work in urban areas may not work in rural locations.
Throughout my medical career, I have engaged into various interactive activities and therefore, my communication and interpersonal skills are excellent. Since I understand that being flexible is a vital aspect of this particular career, I have been involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities such as water sports, acting and debate clubs in college. My record of involvement in community service is also outstanding. Most of these aforementioned activities have seen me step up my leadership skills; I have taken leadership posts in the past undisputedly. I believe in servant leadership and for this reason, I usually have a very easy time coping with people who we differ in opinions.
In between my studies, I have had a chance to get attached in several medical institutions. In these institutions, I have learnt basic skills that a medical practitioner should follow in his or her operations. These medical internships have strengthened my passion and motivation that drive me in my medical career. Some close members of my family are osteopathic physicians and hence I have had a good chance to understand the ups and down of this particular career. These close allies have also helped me get informed on the operations of this career; as a result, I have shadowed a real osteopathic doctor. Moreover, my nuclear and extended family is consisted of diverse ethnic groups and I know a variety of foreign languages.
In the past, I have been able to apply knowledge that I get in my clinical lessons and from other sources such as life experiences. My goal has always been commitment to quality healthcare without discriminating against a certain group of people; this quality would be of great importance to osteopathic trainees in rural areas since this area is most neglected by many medical institutions and practitioners. I believe in learning from other people and teaching them as well. I get opinions from many advisors, colleagues and health institutions so as to establish the best way to tackle a medical problem at hand. I also believe in teamwork and consultation in every step I take in my medical career and therefore, I am professional in all my medical undertakings.
