Why Planting A Million Trees In Derbyshire Is Great For The Environment
I recently discovered a new website which is a new initiative set up mainly to Improve the visual aspect of local communities. Another aim is to help move Derbyshire from being one of the counties with the least trees in the UK and also to improve local housing estates, improve roadside verges and create tree lined avenues.
One of the ways this initiative helps the local community is to improve untidy sites that are a bad advertisement for the local area and Derbyshire in general.
The project also aims to create new forests and link up existing tree thickets on road verges to create green corridors. They also plan to plant single trees in hedge lines along country lanes.
The planting of all these trees will off set carbon emissions and also help to make streets cooler in summer.
I feel that this will create an improved quality of life for people living and working in Derbyshire through promoting a sense of well-being and promoting health whilst also providing increased privacy in residential roads and gardens.
This project is also of major historical importance – many of Derbyshire’s street trees date back to Victorian times.
Another benefit of the planting will be to provide green links between parks and open spaces and help to improve air quality and reduce pollution. Having more trees in an area also absorbs traffic noise which is a bonus to local residents.
In my opinion local property values will increase through making streets more attractive – properties are often promoted as being in “tree-lined streets”.
It is very refreshing to find a true not for profit scheme in our local area that will have a lasting impact hopefully for years to come.
