Teaching Your Experiences In Community Colleges Can Be Rewarding

For decades now colleges and other schools have found an alternative outlet for education through continuing education courses in a variety of fields. From bird watching to fashioning dolls to woodworking, these non-accredited courses are aimed to fill a void in education by providing a learning for fun environment. Some of these classes may be taught by college professors or teachers, but others may be taught by those with no credentials and you too may have fun sharing your knowledge while earning a bit of extra cash by teaching your experiences in community lleges.

Check it out with local schools in the area. Some may be looking for a person to fill a specific class, such as the basics of computers or how one can prepare their own tax returns. But, many places are open to new ideas. So, if you have expertise in a specific area and think others may want to learn from it, you may want to pitch it to the extension department. Maybe you know a lot about developing a balcony vegetable garden in an urban environment, or how to refinish antique furniture. These are things others may want to learn. You can develop your own niche.

Be prepared to market yourself and your classes. You may want to do it ahead of time, so you have backing of the potential interest in the class. You canpromote it on one or more social networking sites. The more localized, the better and maybe even the college has its own. If you come prepared with say 10 or more students who are ready to sign up for the potential class, the more likely it will be approved.

Then, if it is a hit and you like it, the class can be offered again. Or, maybe a more advanced class can be added. Or, maybe you have something completely different to offer, too, and if students like the way you teach, the word with get out. You have developed a new part-time job or even career for yourself.

If you find you like teaching, it’s never too late to go back to school, yourself, and earn you credentials. There is always a demand for teachers in all levels and all areas.

Taking that first step can open many doors. Teaching your experiences in community colleges can be rewarding as well as fun. It can bring a sense of pride when you help someone else through the knowledge and expertise you have developed.
