The Uses and Concepts of a Pneumatic Hammer
The term jackhammer is actually based on North American English while the term pneumatic hammer is penned from old English. In order to use a jackhammer, there is a drill and a motor connected within the machine. The drill serves as the hammer part of the jackhammer. A full sized jackhammer is actually used against walls and hard areas. The worker would need to move the jackhammer to a specified area before drilling. In some instances, the jackhammer would be placed in the arms of the user. This is actually the case when the drill would be used on walls. However, if the pneumatic hammer would be used for concrete and platform surfaces, the tool would be covered by the arms. The arms would not only act as the spring but also as the support for the jackhammer.
In order for the pneumatic hammer to work, there is actually a spring that is connected to the machine inside the tool. The spring would either expand or compress depending on the type of task. For instance, if the jackhammer would be used on a hard surface such as concrete, the spring would pull the drill. The drill would then be the one to hammer the large surface. The original type of jackhammer, which is the pneumatic hammer, actually uses compressed air as its main power source. The compressed air would be the one to drive the drill to the surface. The compressed air would be created by a machine which usually uses AC or Alternating Current. However, new types of jackhammers would use diesel engine. The reciprocating compressor would need to be constantly maintained so that the tool would be used in optimum effect.
In some countries, the use of rotary compressors is used. The device would still be connected to an electric generator is also needed in order for the device to work. The type of jackhammer which would usually be used in terms of breaking concrete is the hydraulic type. The hydraulic type is much larger than a portable pneumatic hammer and it is capable of breaking various objects as well as rough surfaces.
