From Piano Man to Diaper Man: Elton John Welcomes First Son
It’s a boy for Sir Elton John and partner David Furnish!
Together with his civil partner, film director and producer David Furnish, 62 year old Sir Elton John will be making a major change as they both enter into parenthood. It was confirmed by Elton’s publicist who is based in Los Angeles that the baby was born to a surrogate mother on December 25th when everyone was celebrating one of the most joyful holiday seasons.
The baby boy who weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces was born in California, USA. He was named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. The couple considered this as their happiest Christmas ever as they consider the adoption as wish came true since they got together.
Back in October 1993, the two met and became mutual friend. With 12 years of friendship, they entered civil partnership the day it became legal in England. The ceremony took place on the 21st of December in 2005.
Reports said that the idea to adopt was all David’s idea as Elton would always reject it. When they visited a Ukrainian orphanage last fall, everything changed as they saw a child named Lev and his HIV-positive brother Artyom. But fate was not favorable to the couple as Ukraine prohibited the application for adoption.
Good thing that they stumbled upon a woman who was willing to bear a child for them. This surrogate mother’s identity remains unknown for the protection of her privacy. The couple preferred to retain their privacy on the issue whether the sperm used for her pregnancy came from them. We will probably just need to wait until Zachary gets older.
Now, if you are thinking about the adjustments that the couple had to make with Zachary’s arrival then just realize how happy you can be when one of your dreams come true. When asked about their impression of the couple adoption of this baby, most of their celebrity friends said that they’re happy about it; that this baby would surely become a new source of joy for them. Some even made a joke that Zachary will surely be center of attraction of paparazzi especially when he begins to smile.
Some fans also joked on how Sir Elton John’s transformation from the “Rocket Man” has evolved to “Diaper Man”. As first timers; having a child in a relationship like theirs, it would have been a life changing experience.
While it is exciting for any child to have two famous and successful parents, some skeptics believe that life will be lived differently for Zachary as he will be raised by two individuals of the same sexual orientation living in a nation where conservatism is widely observed.
From this month till June, Sir Elton John will go on tour. Just like any child born of busy parents, Zachary will probably miss him. If David will be left alone with him, Elton would probably miss the moments of changing diapers and feeding him at wee hours. This year will be a busy one for the couple. That said; you can expect to see a baby on stage singing with Elton.
