All People Need To Find Out About The Amazon Kindle Reader
Ebooks are becoming the wave of the future, and the Amazon Kindle reader was one of the first of its kind. This small device is capable of storing multiple books in a compact, easy-to-carry format which allows readers to take their favorite books everywhere.
The name “Kindle” refers to both the software platform used to run the ebook reader, and the device itself. In the beginning, you could only read ebooks formatted for Kindles on an ebook reader bearing the name, but more recently, the software has become available for download to smartphones and personal computers. This allows people to buy and read Amazon ebooks without purchasing the device.
Originally, there was only one version, but Kindles number 2 and 3 each come in two formats– original and DX. DX is a larger-screened variety that is supposed to allow easier reading of newspapers, textbooks, and other materials formatted for a bigger page. Aside from the fact that a larger device is more cumbersome, the fact that the print edition page numbers are not maintained in the Kindle format can be problematic for quoting in scholastic papers.
The reason that eBook readers were invented was that the typical computer screen is not particularly good for reading from. The glare and the brightness of a normal computer screen tires the eyes and many people find them hard to read on. The specialized technology used in eBook readers has a gray-scale screen that is not very bright, and much more comfortable to read on.
The latest variety of the Amazon Kindle reader is the third version, not counting an ‘international’ version that was very similar to the second. The company asserts that the screen has been vastly improved, and reviewers and readers support this claim. This is the first version to sport wifi capabilities, which allows users to download ebooks anywhere with a wireless network.
As well as wifi, the more expensive variety of version 3 has 3G cell phone network access, to allow for downloads from anywhere with cell phone reception. The single variety of version 2 also had this capability, and perhaps had it better. Consumers have complained about the diminished quality of the 3G reception between Kindles 2 and 3.
Reading ebooks allows a person to carry around as many as 1500 books (the estimated capacity of the Amazon Kindle reader version 2). But all of these books must be purchased from a company directly, without the availability of used or library copies. These ways to access cheaper traditional reading material means that upgrading to ebooks can be quite an expensive proposition.
