Personal And Socio – Cultural Values
We live in a world that that is filled with diversity and yet its beauty cannot me contemplated in words; such is the profound ability of nature to strike a balance and bring about beauty in diversity. This does not mean that the world is free of problems. However if we try and burden ourselves with the complexities of today’s problems, it’s highly likely that it’s way beyond our capabilities. So let’s not give up before we could have possibly even started; because there is nothing that is not within our reach as long as you and I are in it together. This is the very reason why I am ready to be a social worker.
I have firm belief that I will be able to bring about a change for the better. More than belief – it’s my need to make a difference in somebody else’s life that drives me. After all what is the point if you are the only one who is smiling in the room – it’s always better to share that smile with other people.
Most of the time great problems are solved by geniuses. What may be rocket science to the majority is most likely to be a simple question to a select few. Most people are aware that there is a problem. An even fewer number will be able to accept that there is a problem. Most of all – only a select few will deny the temptation to procrastinate and find the reasons behind the problem.
When it comes to social work all the above mentioned virtues will certainly help. However the most important factor remains to be – the clarity of thought. Throw away all the complexities and status quos and you see that behind all the problems there is only one entity – man.
Man has a lot of innovations to his credit – he has the inherent ability to solve a problem, no matter how complex. Hence there is no reason why man can’t solve the problems that he has created himself.
However human nature does not always stay the same – there are ones with malicious intent and those with a good conscience. Then again since life is a struggle; most of human nature is governed my rather dynamic circumstances. These circumstances can be governed by – love, hatred, greed, some kind of materialistic desire or just colossal ambivalent nature. In short the way a human behaves cannot be perceived or predicted accurately. But the problems man has created have not just grown in number but in its complexity too.
What needs to be understood is that – man continues to create problems and he is solely responsible for all its consequences. Hence society needs more and more people to get involved in bringing about a change. In short I consider social work to be more than just a profession – it defines who I really am and most of all I will be able to bring about changes for the better.
