Dell Inc

Dell Inc. is a leading American company in the technology industry. Since its establishment by Michael Dell in 1984, the company has been a market leader in the computer technology industry. It is mainly involved with manufacturing and selling of personal computers, computer assisting hardware and scores of other computer related products (Dell, 2009). Dell Inc has over the years been a monopolistically competitive organization with a very large market share both in America and many other countries across the world. Dells main strategy has however been production of unmatched quality products with some tailored to meet specific market needs. Nevertheless, the technology industry had undergone drastic changes over the years: becoming one of the most competitive business stages today. Other organizations have come in to try and share a chunk of the market that dell has been previously enjoying. It is characterized by elusive battle of strategies and rampant technological innovations and inventions for products development as part of the company’s’ effort to win the market.
Examples of dell Inc closest competitors include the IBM, digitech, honnestech, Compaq, among others; most of which seems to have mastered Dells strategy. The mastery is based on a clear understanding of the company’s strengths and weaknesses. With the pulsating and exciting business environment and the rivalry that is currently being witnessed in the technological industry, Dell cannot continue relying on the old strategies. Consequently, change of the strategy, overhaul of the organizational culture and maintenance of a dynamic organizational structure is necessary if at all the company is to remain competitive; and more importantly maintain its position as a leader in the industry.
The Macro Environment These are factors that are not in control of Dell as a company or rather the external variables. The problem in this case is the dynamisms of the technology industry in terms of competitiveness as well as the ever changing technology, especially for the computer related products that the company deals with. The technology industry is one of the fastest changing industries in today’s business environment. New technological innovations and inventions are coming up every other day. A company in this industry therefore has to be on its toes at all times in order to avoid being left off the pace. As such, the research and development departments and teams based management must be well established and up to date in steering innovations and inventions in the company, if at all it is to survive in this industry.
Dell Inc is no exception. Being a market leader in both in the American and global technology industry, laxity in the part of research and development will have near fatal consequences for the company.
