Flag Poles and Flags – Republic of Austria

Europe is known for its diversity in terms of countries and inhabitants. Interestingly, the same applies to flags of Europe. Even though a good number of tricolor flags are attached flag poles in our times, wonderful variation exists between these respective banners. For example, the Austrian flag displays 3 horizontal stripes in the colors red, white and red, from top to bottom.

Adopted back in 1230, more than 750 years ago, Austrian flags fly proudly from flagpoles throughout this stunning country. At the time, Duke Friedrich 2, who was also nicknamed the Warlike, produced a new a design for the coat of arms in the colors red, white and red, also in the year 1230. This effort was part of an attempt to become more independent from the mighty Roman Empire at that time.

The very first origins of the country of Austria date back to the Roman Empire. At the time a Celtic kingdom was conquered by the Empire, some 15 years BC, which later became a territory called Noricum, a province of Rome. The larger part of that area includes that area which is called Austria today. Some centuries later, and under rule of the native Habsburg dynasty, Austria became a significant European power.

It is said that Leopold V first “invented” the Austrian flag. The legend that claims this information has been told for years. Like with other historical flags, this legend is also fascinating. Leopold only lived thirty seven years. He was involved in the Crusades; in fact, the legend tells that following a battle, his white uniform or dress was covered with blood. Following the removal of this belt, his white dress displayed 2 red colored bands with a white center band in the middle. This experience is said to have inspired the current design of the Austrian banner.

Flags of Europe, including Austria flags, for use with flag poles of all kinds are available at various flag companies throughout Europe, as well as the United States. Generally speaking, these flags are produced from good materials and fly beautifully in the slightest breeze.
