Being successful so far has been through combination of many factors. The history of my family and the environment I have been living in has played a pivotal role in my success. Since my very young days, my parents have always emphasized on quality education. This does not only mean attending schools but also putting enough efforts to be the best in academics or meet owns academic goals. My parents were born in Philippines which is my native country and later moved into the United States. They have worked tirelessly hard to be who they are and to be my role model. My father is a bachelor’s degree graduate while my mother is a doctorate graduate. Living with scholars who have really achieved their goals has always made me to work hard in school. I do not only want to achieve like my parents but I also want to be better than they are.
Achieving in academics cannot be better without being morally upright and without appreciating our cultural background. My parents taught me to appreciate our Filipino culture and be proud of being a Filipino. We; Filipinos have community and cultural activities from time to time. I fell honored attending and participating in these activities as they define who I am and where I come from. Morals are an integral part of our lives. Maintaining high morals is no doubt the right channel to be able to achieve goals resourcefully. My parents played a major role in building me morally. They also taught me how to maintaining these high morals. Since my young years, my parents introduced me to the Catholic Church. This was meant to help me maintain my high morals and to also maintain a sense of faith in God.
My Father always said that work and no play makes jack a dull boy. He has taught me a lot since those tender age years. He told me that it was of no use to concentrate on academics alone without being involved in extra curricula activities. I was also taught one very important lesson; balancing my academics and the extra curricula activities. This has helped me to be who I am and to be an achiever in the many areas that I have achieved in. I am a member of several organizations and clubs for instance National Honor Society since 2007, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) since 2006, The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) since 2006. I also competed in County and State Level every year and won distinguishable award. As a teen, I joined the teen coalition that helps teenage to make decisions on how to combat the many problems teenagers face. I have also been participating in sports like tennis and wrestling and am a member of school team for the two sports.
The influence from my parents is one of the best challenges I have ever come across in my whole life. Achieving like my parents will not be easy but with the culture they have introduced me into, I will definitely be the best. Were it not for my parents, I would not have achieved what I have so far.
