WOW Mage Leveling & Quest Guide

WOW Mage Leveling & Quest Guide
Good going, you are playing a Mage in world of warcraft. If this is the first time you have played a Mage you should find this information helpful to help get you going. Today we are going to discuss leveling the Mage in world of warcraft and how to play it the right way.

If you have played other fantasy games that have mage’s then you have a good idea of how to play the world of warcraft Mage. The Mage is typically weak in stature but strong in spell casting. The world of warcraft Mage fits this description, but the magical abilities of the mage of world of warcraft makes it a formidable character.
The Mage character class should stay clear of any hand to hand fighting, it is designed purely for fighting from a distance. The Mage
can deal out incredible damage but without any self healing capabilities the Mage does not bode well under fire. The Mage has some really cool abilities that are of great benefit to themselves and their group, such as the ability to conjure food and water, cause great wide spread damage to its enemies, and transport themselves and their group to capital cities from anywhere.

Racial traits you should review for your WOW Mage:

The fact that the Mage class has no way to heal itself makes the draenei race a good race to consider for its Gift of the Naaru healing ability.
Along the same lines as the draenei, the troll race is helpful with its regeneration ability, though not quite as effective as the Gift of the Naaru.
The blood elf is by itself a very powerful race with Arcane Torrent and Arcane Affinity and complements the Mage class very nicely.
The gnomes ability to replenish mana with Expansive Mind is great for a Mage and they can get away from trouble using their Escape Artist talent.
I feel that humans are just so-so as a mage. They have diplomacy which will help your reputations but they don’t help the Mage class much as they have sword and mace specializations which are of no use to the Mage class.
There is not much sense in playing a Mage with the forsaken race as it only has mild bonuses against priests and warlocks.

At the very start, no matter what character class or race you are playing I recommend keeping it simple. For the first several levels simply get a feel of your character and what you are able to do. Keep yourself out of harms way by avoiding long periods of fighting.

Stay clear of hand to hand combat when just starting out, try to fight from afar. But don’t misinterpret this as just fooling around. Pay close attention to questing and be sure to do every quest you can get your hands on. If you think you have completed all the quests in your present area check again to be sure.

Study,study,study.
Learn everything that local trainers can teach you and don’t move on in world of warcraft until you are sure you have learned it all. Start looking into your professions and get an idea of which ones you might want to specialize in. Don’t take choosing your professions lightly, start learning about them early on. Each character class will benefit differently with each profession, find out which will help your character the most. Most players don’t think about getting a mount until much latter, but I suggest planning ahead and saving some gold so you can get a mount as soon as you hit level 20.

Some people may disagree but I find the Mage to be one of the easier classes to play at the beginning levels. Early on the Mage will rely on it’s powerful Fireball spell to defeat it’s foes from afar. To make leveling your Mage easier be sure to use the Frost Armor self buff to increase your defenses. These two abilities make the Mage very formidable even at lower levels, especially when in a group.
