The Mexican American War
The Mexican-American war has always had a place in the American history. This is the war that took place in 1846 to 1848 although the conflict or war that followed the Mexican American war has eclipsed it to the periphery in terms of the American history. There are questions when answered aim at elaborating the Mexico American war. Some of the questions are discussed in here.
First to be addressed is the question of what were the events and actions that led to the Mexico American war. The war itself had ranging reasons as to try and justify it. The political scene in the United States was a major event that contributed to the war. The Americans were gearing towards the elections and the state of Texas was in consideration. Many of the southerners were of the opinion of re-annexing and expanding the state of Texas. This was to enable them be able to hold and carry out slavery on a large scale. The issue of expansion and re-annexing took the centre stage for candidates to win the support of the southerners.
Another event that is believed to have triggered the Mexico American war was the issue of economic and business opportunities. The American leaders believed that with the more expansion and the annexing of the Mexican border, the country was to benefit economically and open up the numerous business opportunities along the Pacific Ocean. For instance, the San Francisco and the San Diego bays in the Pacific Ocean.
Another idea that also led to the war is said to be what is called the manifest destiny. This was the view of the Americans that it was their task to bring together the people of God. That believe is said to have been that the Americans had been chosen and sent by God to bring His people together.
There was another war in the American history soon after the Mexico America war. This was the civil strife and unrest that is called the civil war. This was as a protest by the minority population against the harsh and ill treatment of the people. This was called slavery. The southerners had practiced the slave trade for a long period of time and made sure they had the upper hand in the affairs of the federal government. They did this by ensuring they produced more presidents and controlled the senate and the congress for their own good. This was not to last long enough as more states were joining the union as either free states or slave states.
The emerging trend of free and slave states led to the emergence of two regions that are quite on different paths. This was the main difference between the North Americans and the southerners. The North Americans had embraced industrialization growth, an increase in population mainly from the European immigrants, devoted to the urbanization and infrastructure growth while their counterparts in the south were heavily involved in the agrarian productions without the requisite population to work as their labor force. The increase in the population in the North Americans eventually affected the balancing of power in the federal government by the southerners. The main political issue that is believed to have triggered the war was the issue of slavery in the southern territory that had been annexed from the Mexico American war. The idea was at the centre of the election campaign which saw the southerners replace a candidate over slavery.
