The internet is the main reason why collocation also existed. Without the existence of the internet, collocation could not also get a life of its own. Businessmen could not benefit from the many advantages they can get from this system of securing the critical business applications of many small and medium companies at a much lower cost, simply because small and medium enterprises cannot afford the huge investments of putting up their own datacenters. Going back to history, the existence of history was primary for educational purposes of the government. Today, the internet also caters to the same need but lucky for us, the originators of this amazing technology, widened their horizons and also thought of sharing technology to the rest of the world. The people’s need for information and communication exchange was basically answered by the internet. Not only that. The global sharing of information and business has become one of the most important reasons why the internet is needed by everyone.
For companies to maximize its worldwide web internet connectivity and earning potential using the internet as a medium for this goal, many turned to internet datacenters or what is now commonly known as collocation facilities. Back in the 80s, the internet has grown tremendously as the people’s most modern way of exchanging communication wherever they maybe in the world. Unlike before, the people now can have instant contact with their loved ones working overseas. Gone were the days when people cannot effectively communicate their relatives or loved ones abroad because of the unavailability of communication facilities.
It was learned that the ARPANET or the Advance Research Projects Agency Network was the first major network which connected government and universities, elevating the level of communication to these institutions. As a result, instant messaging and relaying of important information and research were effortlessly implemented by various universities and colleges across the globe. The exchange of valuable information and research among experts and students has also created technological buzz which also caught the active eyes of many businessmen who have seen the many potentials of doing business all over the globe. Then the Service Providers (ISPs) was born. This became the leader in the movement that established the Internet datacenters or collocation facilities. The most known company in the past which pioneered was UUNET Communication Services founded by Rick Adams. In 1987 it initially started as a non-profit organization and renamed its name after two years as UNNET. It is able to launch the so-called fastest growing ISP in the 90s, the independent IP Backbone known as the AlterNet. Unluckily the WorldCom, which later bought AlterNet, declared bankruptcy and Verizon took over.
After collocation existed, it has consistently brought the internet business to new heights and dimensions. It was able to bring in technical experts and new entrepreneurs.
Because the Internet is becoming more of a standard of life, businesses will continue to rely on it increasingly more.
