Several treatment sessions may be required before results become apparent. Treatments may be performed monthly or after longer intervals. Your skin will take on a natural healthy glow after the treatments. There is no downtime required for these types of chemical peels and they are sometimes used as pre-treatment for TCA peels.
TCA peels (Trichloroacetic acids) are medium depth types of chemical peels. They are usually used to get rid of fine surface wrinkles, pigmentation problems and superficial problems. Two or three treatments may be required before results become apparent and pain medication may be required after the treatment. Your skin will be noticeably smoother after the treatment and take on a fresh look. The results of this treatment last longer than the with Jessner’s types of chemical peels.
The final type of chemical peels is the phenol peels. These are the deepest types of chemical peels as well as the strongest. Only one treatment session is required for these peels to produce the desired effects and they involve a downtime of at least one week. These treatments are only prescribed to patients with severely sun damaged skin, blotchy areas and coarse facial wrinkles. Phenol also has the side effect of lightening the patient’s skin tone. Your skin tone will therefore have to be considered before the treatment is administered.
