McDonalds Menu – Changes Over The Years

One thing that people may not realize about the size of the McDonalds menu is that it has not always been growing. In fact what enabeld “fast food” in the first place was a drastic cut in the size of the menu from 25 to just 9 items in 1948. The idea being that if the McDonalds menu was only 9 items long, the workers could concentrate on preparing just those items, quickly and in bulk. Thus fast food became fast food.

There were no additions to the Mcdonalds Menu until 1963 when the Fillet-o-Fish was added.
Starting as a pilot program in Cincinnati to deal with “Meatless Fridays” in a mostly Italian neighborhood. It was so popular it was added to the Mcdonalds menu nationwide not long after.
Amazingly, the Big Mac wasn’t added to the Mcdonalds Menu until 1968 (the pilot starting at franchise in 1967). This iconic hamburger, now the cornerstone of the Mcdonalds Menu was first meet with apprehension, it was expensive and executives were concerned it would throw off the company image. The hot apple pie was also introduced in the same year.

Enjoy a large fry with your Big Mac and drink?, that particular option didn’t appear on the McDonalds Menu until 1972, with the Quarter Pounder and cookies appearing shortly there after.
McDonalds Egg Mcmuffin was added in 1975 and gave the Mcdonalds Menu a clear advantage over menus from othe restaurants. Mcdonalds became the place you went to for breakfast.
Mcdonalds has changed quite a bit over the years and so has the Mcdonalds Menu. There are now, at almost any given time, at least one temporary offering on the menu or a sandwich or other menu item that is tried as an experiment and ultimately removed again. The Mcdonalds Menu now includes a plethra of items, from deserts to salads to sandwiches and breakfast items as well.
