Lil Wayne and His Mortality
Lil Wayne, as Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. is most known for an American rapper who made a name for himself when he joined Cash Money Records at the early age of nine years old. Lil Wayne was also able to work with rappers Juvenile, B.G. and Turk. But it was when he was with the Hot Boys that he gained success after their debut album “Get It How U Live!” and their best major selling album, which was “Guerilla Warfare.” By 1999, he was finally able to release his own Platinum debut album, entitled “The Block is Hot,” which sold for over one million copies in the United States.
Although a straight-A student from the New Orleans neighborhood of Hollygrove, Lil Wayne felt that his intelligence was at its best when he was with his music. He found the music as a way of expressing himself. Ever since then, he was able to take inspiration with his music and his rhyme making him one of the best rappers in the music scene.
By 2008, Lil Wayne was able to release his most successful album, “The Carter III,” which sold over one million copies on the first week. The Carter III was the third installment of The Carter I and II which were released in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
On March 2010, the rapper was sentenced for an eight to nine months in prison after being convicted of criminal possession of a weapon in New York from an incident way back in July 2007. It was while he was in prison in Riker’s Island that he released his eight album entitled “I Am Not a Human Being.” The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 after it was officially released on October 12, 2010. The album single, “Right Above It,” was debuted on DJ Funkmaster Flex’s show with Lil Wayne over the phone to give an interview. It is actually a prelude for the upcoming, “The Carter IV.”
The album has seen mixed reviews from a number of music critics. It was known to have a “creative languor” according to Jeff Weiss of Los Angeles Times. In addition, the songs were a window to Wayne’s mortality as he talks about sex, gunplay and intricacies of the different systems. Although the album is a direct turnabout from Wayne’s usual energetic raps and flows, Lil Wayne still managed to put his listeners on their throes as he imparts his message and his music to his fans and his listeners.
