New 2011 Ford Explorer Looks Good
With yearly sales as high as 450,000 at its peak and nearly 4 million still on the road today, the Ford Explorer has definitely made an impression on the SUV market. But interest began to drop in recent years as the Explorer took a back seat to many other SUV manufacturers. Its body style lacked the changes needed to keep the market impressed and rising gas prices have all but sealed its fate to the hard core loyal Ford customer.
A yearlong campaign to reintroduce the Ford has changed all that. Excitement has been building as Ford Motor Company under the leadership of Alan Mulally pulled out all the stops in bringing the all-new 2011 Explorer back to life. From its Face book Campaign to its tightly guarded design and build, Ford created a great deal of anticipation. And now finally they have hit the showroom floors to the delight of nearly everyone.
The beautifully redesigned body is a definite eye catcher. With new sheet metal all the way around, the updated look with indented sides and hood is a definite pleaser. Sharp colors and available 20-inch chrome wheels only accessorize a hot looking SUV. With a perforated grill that gives it a modern yet rugged flair and a fin that tails off the roof of the explorers rear the look is sure to please. It really is just enough and yet not too much, a well thought out design.
Under Explorer’s hood is a 3.5-liter V6 290 hp engine with 255 lb.-ft. of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission. This same engine is being used in the Ford Taurus. Ford claims the new engine will result in a 20% improvement in gas mileage. In 2011 a new engine will join the V6 and it isn’t going to be the V-8 you would expect from years past. The Explorer will be offered with a 2.0-liter Iceboats turbo delivering 250 lb.-ft. of torque, and increasing horsepower by 13 percent over today’s V8 with a 32 percent improvement in fuel economy.
Pre orders for the Explorer have already exceeded expectations. Ford is offering additional rebates to individuals who order their Explorer rather than take it from stock. If you look around the streets you should be seeing the all-new Explorer on the roads already. It is definitely worth a look.
