Steve Kean could hand debuts to his two new loan signings. Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz has returned to the club on loan from Manchester City and is set for his second home debut. Rovers’ other new signing, Jermaine Jones, who joined the club on loan from Schalke for six months on Tuesday, could make his debut in midfield given the absence of Brett Emerton who is away on international duty with Australia in the Asia Cup.

Rovers are also boosted by news that the injury picked up by David Dunn against Chelsea wasn’t as bad as was first feared, and the midfielder will be in contention for this match. He is joined in the squad by fellow midfielders Steven Nzonzi, Vince Grella and Keith Andrews, who have all returned to training after groin injuries.

Kean does have doubts over central defender Ryan Nelsen, who is nursing a sore knee, and reserve goalkeeper Mark Bunn, who is struggling with a back problem. The only Rovers player definitely unavailable is Phil Jones who sustained a serious knee injury in the draw with West Ham before Christmas, and is set for a long period on the sidelines while he recovers.

West Bromwich :
Despite his defence conceding twice against Blackpool, Roberto Di Matteo is set to keep faith with Boaz Myhill in goal, which means Scott Carson has to make do with a place on the bench for the third game in a row.

Scottish midfielder Graham Dorrans is a major doubt for the Baggies after twisting his ankle in training earlier this week; he has not taken part in any training sessions since. Steven Reid is definitely ruled out for Di Matteo’s men with a knee injury, but the club are hopeful he will return to training ahead of schedule next week.

Two players have returned to training and will be available for selection for the trip to the North West. Marc-Antoine Fortune and Giles Barnes have both recovered from minor injuries that kept them out of training earlier this week, and defender Jonas Olsson is available again after completing his one-match suspension.
