Wedding and engagement rings are influenced by culture

Wedding is an auspicious ceremony. It is a beginning of a new episode in a couple’s life. Before wedding engagement is another important event where the bride and the groom take vow to marry each other and to be committed to each other for the rest of the time. Like wedding engagement ceremony is held in countries and society differently and according to their culture and customs. But what is common is the role of engagement ring and in wedding ceremony the role of wedding ring. This custom is more or less the same in every culture and custom irrespective of palace and person.

In every culture and custom exchange of ring is supposed to be an engagement. Ring symbolizes marriage or engagement. A spouse wears it to indicate a marital commitment to fidelity. A fiancée or a fiancé wears it to indicate his or hers engagement. Not only in western countries but also in eastern countries exchange of rings is considered as commitment for lifetime. In certain countries wedding ring is worn on the base of the left ring finger. In other countries this is worn on the right ring finger. Today wedding band is gaining popularity among young couples. An engagement ring is to be worn by a woman in left hand’s ring finger which indicates her being engaged for marriage. The ring is worn in this finger because the vein of love from this finger directly touches heart. But the medical anatomy has proved this a wrong idea. In spite of this fact today it has become a popular fashion all over the world. This sparkling gift is a great way to start your new life and further strengthens your married life.

Victorian rings were embellished with larger stones but during world war and great depression the size become smaller and the quality also. During 1920s the quality of rings diminished comparing its price. In antique rings clarity or brightness of diamond is not the priority but the history and antiqueness are much more important which not the features of a new ring are. The most popular vintage rings are from Victorian era around the time 1940s. These antique rings are special in its style, settings and stones as there are variations of these in each distinct time period. The rings of Victorian era are made up of generally yellow or rose colored gold. Diamond embellishments were common but the commonest were pearls in this time period. Edwardian rings have a filigree design in the rings. Some may have Jewish or Christian designs in the filigree. Art Deco rings of the 1920s are generally platinum, white gold or silver. Bezel settings are common in these rings. The setting makes the smaller diamond appear larger. Rings became smaller and less ornate in the 1930s and 1940s. Platinum became less common during the war years and yellow or white gold was commonly used in rings. Carvings on the shank and settings helped make the center stone appear larger.

Wedding rings are the most important part of a person’s wedding; this wedding ring forms the bond between the husband and the wife as long as they are alive. The ritual of using wedding bands for both men and women started a long time ago.
